Spotlight on Ministry April 2016

Spotlight on ministry: RBC Kids Connection.

Kids Connection lead by Pastor Nathan is one of the most important ministries in our body. The Lord talks to us many times about our children, and how we need to bring them up. We asked Pastor Nathan specifically about men in this role,

SM: why is it important for men to be involved in children’s ministry?

PASTOR NATHAN: “I think It is important for men to be involved In all ministries here at Church. Especially Children’s Ministry, because the Children need to see Men as leaders in their classroom and at home. Most churches with children’s ministries are dominated by women with no men in sight. When that is the case boys start to think that church is for women especially if dad stays home on Sunday to watch football. Don’t get me wrong I love all the ladies that serve in Children’s ministry they are incredible. I really love it when we get husband and wife teams to serve together. Children need to see both men and woman serving.”

It is a common misconception about serving in childrens ministry today that you have to be an expert in the Bible.

Pastor Nathan says “People think that they have to be theologians in order to serve in Children’s Ministry. Yes, you do have to have a good understanding of the basics. The curriculum that we use on Sunday Mornings is wonderful and very in depth. The teachers are learning a lot from it. If a child asks a difficult question (and I have heard some doozeys) It’s ok to say ” that’s a good question, I don’t know, But I will look it up and get back to you next week.” Good questions make us good teachers.”

Men often say that they have not been called for this ministry, however these men who serve have very valid reasons for doing so.

Paul Dyer a Sunday school leader says “Accountability to God’s word, building relationships with kids, being involved in what my own kids are learning, are the reasons I serve.”

Daniel Parker Pre-school leader told us ” If I am to be Christ-like I am to strive to have the same love as Christ did for children.
“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4

I love these kids and I really enjoy serving these kids. Their minds are sponges and I love how much they soak up. The Word of God is living and full excitement. I’m blessed to be the one to get them excited about God and that is my favorite part.

Finally this writer can say from experience, “I never thought I could make a difference, I never thought I could teach the little ones anything. I gave myself to God and made a deal to show up. When I prepare I let God take the lead, I give him my time to show me how to lead the lesson. Most importantly I pray for the class before they come up, I ask God to use me and give me the words to speak. I have been amazed by what the Lord has shown me through the kids. I am blessed to be here in service to the Lord.”
